Afghan women call on Trump to revoke US-Taliban deal

In an open letter, a group of Afghan women, protest movements and human rights activists demanded the cancellation of the peace agreement between the United States and the Taliban. In this letter, they emphasized that this agreement did not only bring peace and stability to Afghanistan, but also had disastrous consequences, including widespread violations of human rights, especially the rights of women and children, the weakening of civil liberties, and a serious threat to security.

This letter, written in English, Farsi and Pashto, addresses Donald Trump as the main signatory of this agreement during his first term as president.

In this letter, the women called for diplomatic pressure on the Taliban, adding that this pressure could include targeted sanctions, political isolation, and freezing the assets of Taliban leaders.

This letter was written by 25 organizations defending women’s rights and human rights.

The Doha agreement between the US and the Taliban, which was signed on February 29, 2020, is believed by many to have paved the way for the return of the Taliban to power instead of creating peace.

The Taliban government has rejected most of these claims and claim that women’s rights have been secured in their government based on “Islamic Sharia values”.

However, so far no country has recognized the government of the Taliban and the international community has repeatedly emphasized the need for the Taliban to respect women’s rights and form an “inclusive government
