Fawzia Koofi Former Afghan Parliamentarian Criticizes Exclusion of Women and Democratic Forces at Third Doha Meeting
Fawzia Koofi, a former member of the Afghan parliament, says the exclusion of women, civil society organizations, and democratic forces from the third Doha meeting is another failure for the United Nations, which now sees itself as the sole actor in Afghanistan.
She stated that the design of the Doha meeting, based on the Taliban’s wishes, contradicts UN Security Council Resolution 2721. Koofi wrote on X that sidelining the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan from the first Doha process led to a profound failure, resulting in the collapse of all institutions built with the blood and collective capital of the Afghan people and their international partners.
Human rights activists say the UN has excluded women and democratic forces opposed to the Taliban from the third Doha meeting. Previously, the Taliban had set conditions for participating in the third Doha meeting, including setting their desired agenda, transferring Afghanistan’s UN seat to their group, and not inviting civil society members.
On Sunday, Haqqani 28th, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, announced that the group’s representatives would participate in the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan, as they consider it in “Afghanistan’s interest.”
