The members of the UN Security Council unanimously approved a resolution on Friday (Friday 25), extending UNAMA’s mission in Afghanistan for another year.Japan, responsible for the Afghanistan case in the Security Council, had prepared the draft of this resolution.The representative of Japan said at the UN Security Council meeting that this country continues its efforts for the people of Afghanistan and supports the role of UNAMA.Amb Yamazaki said that considering the poor human rights situation, especially the situation of women and girls, and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, UNAMA’s role is more important than ever.He added that according to the agreement of the Doha meeting, for a better interaction of the international community with the Taliban and building trust with this group, it is necessary to continue the UNAMA mission in Afghanistan.Mr. Yamazaki said that the extension of the UNAMA mission sends a strong message to the people of Afghanistan that the United Nations, with the support of the Security Council, will continue to work tirelessly for Afghans, especially those who are in difficult situations.
