Qatar calls for withdrawal of Israeli army from southern Lebanon
Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has called for the complete withdrawal of the Israeli army from southern Lebanon during a meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun. According to the Anadolu Agency, Al Thani stated on Saturday, October 17, that he had discussed regional developments, the situation in southern Lebanon, and “Israel’s occupation measures” with President Aoun. He reiterated Qatar’s support for Lebanon and demanded that the Israeli army withdraw from occupied Lebanese territories and hand over these areas to the Lebanese army.
The Qatari Prime Minister also added that Doha is working to provide comprehensive solutions for Lebanon’s energy sector and emphasized strengthening economic cooperation between the two countries. This comes as southern Lebanon has been under Israeli occupation for several months, and diplomatic efforts have not yet led to the withdrawal of Israeli forces from these areas.
