UNESCO: Eradicating poverty requires creating equal opportunities for all

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has stated on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty that ending poverty requires creating equal opportunities for all. The organization emphasized on Saturday, October 17, that access to knowledge, skills, and job opportunities can be expanded through education, science, and the creative economy. UNESCO added that it strives to build a future based on human dignity for everyone, ensuring that no one is deprived of opportunities for advancement.

The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty is observed annually on October 17. The day’s origins trace back to 1987, when over one hundred thousand people gathered in Paris and declared poverty a violation of human rights. By marking this day, the UN stresses the need for global solidarity in the fight against poverty and the protection of human dignity.
