Haqqani and EU Envoy Discuss Expanding Engagement

Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban government’s Minister of Interior, has met with Thomas Frellesen, the European Union’s Special Representative for Afghanistan. The Bakhtar News Agency, which operates under Taliban control, reported on Monday, October 12, that the two sides discussed expanding engagement between the Taliban and the European Union. According to the report, regional stability and the fight against narcotics were also among the topics of discussion.

Additionally, the situation of Afghan migrants, their return process, and humanitarian issues were reviewed during the meeting. This meeting takes place amidst ongoing regional efforts to resolve issues between the Taliban government and Pakistan, a topic that was also part of the conversation. At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of continued engagement and the expansion of cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
