Taliban: Phase two of Kajaki Dam is 96 percent complete
The Taliban government has announced that the construction of the second phase of the Kajaki Dam in Helmand province is 96 percent complete. The Taliban’s Ministry of Water and Energy said on Saturday, October 17, that the project is expected to be completed and commissioned in the near future. The announcement was reported by the Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency.
The Kajaki Dam, built on the Helmand River, is considered one of Afghanistan’s most critical infrastructure facilities for hydropower generation, water resource management, and irrigation of agricultural lands. The dam plays a key role in supplying electricity to Helmand and neighboring provinces and helps regulate water flow for farming. Taliban officials state that the completion of this project will increase electricity production capacity and create opportunities for agricultural and industrial growth.
According to them, this could help boost agricultural output and create new job opportunities in the region.
