Hamid Karzai Calls for Reopening Schools, Universities for Girls

Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, has once again called for the reopening of schools and universities for girls, marking the International Day of the Girl Child. In a message published by local media on Sunday, October 11, Mr. Karzai emphasized the critical importance of empowering girls for Afghanistan’s growth and development.

He stated that Afghanistan will only achieve true growth when it focuses on empowering its girls, a goal that can be realized by providing them with all educational opportunities. The former president also urged society not to neglect the empowerment of girls alongside boys. This call comes as the Taliban government, after taking power in August 2021, has barred girls above the sixth grade from school and banned women from university education.
