40% of the world’s population is educated in their mother tongue
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has said that 40% of the world’s population does not have access to education in the language they speak or understand. Today, on the occasion of International Mother Language Day, this institution wrote in its account that language diversity is increasingly threatened by the disappearance of more languages. UNESCO added that today 250 million children and young people are deprived of school and 763 million adults do not master basic literacy skills. February 21, 1999, was designated by UNESCO as International Mother Language Day.
