U.S. Congress: Trump businesses received .8 million from foreign countries

The U.S. Congress has released a report that found that businesses associated with former President Donald Trump and his family received $7.8 million from 20 foreign countries during his presidency.

According to the report, Afghanistan was the seventh-largest recipient of these payments, with $154,750.

The report, which was compiled by Democratic members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee, found that the payments were made between 2017 and 2021.

China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Malaysia were also among the countries that made payments to Trump-affiliated businesses.

The report found that the payments were often used to pay for stays at Trump-owned hotels and apartments.

The report’s findings are likely to raise further questions about Trump’s business dealings and his potential conflicts of interest while he was president.

Critics say payments raise ethical concerns

Critics of Trump say the payments raise ethical concerns because they could have given foreign governments leverage over the former president.

“This report is further evidence that Donald Trump used his presidency for personal gain,” said Representative Carolyn Maloney, the chairwoman of the House Oversight and Reform Committee. “These payments from foreign governments create a clear conflict of interest and raise serious questions about Trump’s fitness for office.”

Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has said that the payments were simply business transactions.

“This is a witch hunt,” Trump said in a statement. “The Democrats are just trying to find something, anything, to attack me with.”

The report is the latest in a series of investigations into Trump’s business dealings. In December, the House Oversight and Reform Committee released a report that found that Trump had engaged in “a pattern of corrupt behavior” while he was president.
