Argentina Arrests Three Suspected Terrorists

The Argentine government announced on Thursday that it had arrested three Syrian and Lebanese citizens on suspicion of planning a terrorist attack.

Patricia Bullrich, the country’s security minister, said one of the detainees had Venezuelan and Colombian passports in his name.

She told reporters that the country’s authorities are on high alert, as Argentina is hosting a major sporting event for the Jewish community that will involve around 4,000 athletes.

Security forces arrested the three suspects at a hotel near the Israeli embassy, based on information received from the United States and Israel about potential threats.

The suspects are being held incommunicado while the investigation is ongoing.

The arrests come at a time of heightened tensions in the Middle East. Iran has been accused of sponsoring terrorism, and there have been concerns that the country could target Jewish communities around the world.

The Argentine government has not released any information about the specific nature of the alleged plot, but the arrests have raised fears of a possible attack in the country.
