Kabul – Tahir, a commander of the former government’s popular uprising forces has been arrested after beating in the Kalfagan district of Takhar, according to local sources.

“Taliban forces entered the commander’s house and took him away after beating him up,” a family member of the commander told Hasht-e Subh today (Tuesday, January 18).

The commander’s family members say he believed in the Taliban general amnesty and had returned to normal life.

Tahir’s relatives stated that his health is dire as a result of beatings by the Taliban, and they do not allow any of his family members to visit.

Family members of the ex- regime’s popular uprising claim that he was knocked unconscious by the Taliban after being beaten and taken to a district health center, however, the Taliban have so far said nothing in the district.

Earlier, residents of Kalfagan complained about the Taliban’s detention of former government uprising commanders and had called on them to stop the arrestments.
