One Killed, 5 Injured in Clashes over Land Grabbling in Balkh

Kabul – One person was killed and five others were injured in a clash among the district police chief of the Taliban and residents of a village, according to the residents of Sholgara district in Balkh.

The incident took place around 12:00 noon on Tuesday, January 11, among individuals affiliated with the Taliban police chief for Sholgara district and residents of Rahmatabad village over land grabbing, according to sources.

“The clash took place when the residents of Jangali village of this district, with the support of Sholgara police chief, attacked to seize the lands of Rahmatabad villagers,” Some residents told Hasht-e Subh.

When people went to the area to prevent usurpation of their land, they were met with a military response from the police chief which five civilians were wounded, and one of the district police chief’s bodyguards was killed in a shootout, residents added.

Tajuddin, a resident of Rahmatabad village, insists that three civilians were detained by the Taliban and two others are still missing.

“The Taliban have also prevented the wounded from being taken to hospital by setting up checkpoints along the way,” he said.

In the meantime, some videos have been received to Hasht-e Subh, showing that injures are under the treatment.

The Taliban have not yet commented.

On the contrary to what the Taliban officials have promised, there are reports from all over the country indicating that such incidents have taken place in abundance.
