800 Children Receive Winter Cloth in Parwan

Kabul – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has distributed winter cloth to 880 children in Parwan province, following a report by Hasht-e Subh on the rise of working children and poverty in the province.

“The aid is supposed to be distributed to the needy children in several districts and the capital of Parwan province,” Rasool Abdi, technical adviser and local developer of UNICEF Child Protection, told Hasht-e Subh today (Tuesday, February 1).

Although Abdi does not state the exact number of child laborers in Afghanistan, he acknowledges that the number of child laborers in the country has risen to an all-time high over the past few months.

Meanwhile, officials from the Parwan Department of Labor and Social Affairs had expressed concern about the increase in child labor in the province about two weeks ago.

At the time, the department had told Hasht-e Subh that due to lack of financial resources, many orphanage children in Parwan have been given to some families to take care of them.

According to the official statistics of the Department of Labor and Social Affairs of Parwan province, more than 1,700 children are working hard in Charikar city, the capital of the province.
